Rockets fall 33-6 at Union County homecoming

Rocket Branen Lamey had a big
night with a TD reception
and 61-yard kickoff return.
MORGANFIELD, Ky. – Undefeated Union County pounded the Rockets on the ground, then went to the air for the kill shot as Class 3A’s No. 10 Braves beat Crittenden County 33-6 for their homecoming game.

Crittenden was never in the contest after Union (5-0) used a formidable rushing attack to move the chains and score two early touchdowns. The Braves picked up a safety in the second period, sacking Rocket QB Hunter Boone in the end zone. Then they scored another touchdown on a passing play to Dealynn Ricketts, who caught all of Union quarterback Jacob Winters’ five completions in the game. Two of those went for TDs.

Branen Lamey caught a touchdown pass from Boone to get CCHS on the board with the final play of the first half, but Crittenden couldn’t keep the momentum after the break. Union scored on its first possession of the last half and the Rockets failed to capitalize on great field position in the final two periods.

Union running backs Chris Bledsoe and R.J. Savage (a transfer this year from Alabama) were the workhouses. They combined for 246 of the Braves' rushing yards.

Still, Boone managed to set some career records, becoming the Rockets’ all-time passing attempts and completions leader. He broke a record set two years ago by Nick Castiller.

Crittenden (2-3) will turn its attention next week to First District Class A action as Fulton City comes to Marion for the Rocket homecoming game.
Rocket freshman Ian Ellington
and the rest of the line had their
work cut out for them against
Union's big front.
