Rockets celebrate coach in 54-6 win

Dozens of former and present Rockets honored coach
Starnes with a rocking chair to celebrate his career
and eminent retirement at the end of the season.
Marion, Ky. – On a night when dozens of former players came to celebrate Rocket football coach Al Starnes' 27th and final season, the longtime skipper got an easy Class A First District win as Crittenden blasted Fulton City 54-6.

The homecoming game was over early as the Rockets scored five times in the first period and marched ahead with an impressive showing over the winless Bulldogs.

Junior quarterback Hunter Boone threw four TD passes in the first half and the Rockets rushed for three more en route to a 48-0 lead at the break.

From there, the reserves tacked on another touchdown as backup QB freshman Braxton Winders threw a scoring pass to classmate Tyler Boone in the third period. Fulton managed to avoid the shutout with a long touchdown run in the last period.

Crittenden's defense stymied the Dogs. Fulton had minus-24 yards of offense in the first two periods. Hunter Jones blocked a punt and Cody Belt recovered a Fulton fumble. Senior defensive end Adam Beavers had seven solo tackles in the first half and five of them were behind the line of scrimmage.

Belt scored three TDs – two on passes from Boone and one on the ground.

About 100 former players came to celebrate Starnes' career at Crittenden. He was presented with a rocking chair signed by former and present players and supporters.

Crittenden hosts Ballard Memorial this week in a non-district game. Ballard is 1-5 overall after earning its first win last week against Webster County. The Bombers may be one of the best teams in all of Class 2A with just one win, said Starnes. They have speed and the quarterback throws very well.
