Rockets turn Pink Out into blowout

Bowe Wallace (26) and Clint Asbridge (6) tackle Fulton QB Bubba Kirby.
MARION, Ky. – Crittenden County's Pink Out turned into a blowout as the seventh-ranked Rockets colored Fulton County pale with a 48-0 First District victory on a night when Breast Cancer Awareness was the theme.

Wearing pink socks and wrist bands, the Rocket football boys showed their team spirit in the fight against a cancer that affects one in every six women. The game was billed as a Pink Out as players, coaches and fans dressed in light rosy attire to bring awareness to a dreaded disease.

It was a wipe out for Crittenden as senior running back Andrew Freeman scored the first three touchdowns, causing a fumble to set up the final TD in his hat trick.

Underclassmen did the rest of the offensive damage as junior Dustin Hernandez scored on a dazzling 57-yard run and sophomore Grant Gardner and freshmen Travis Gilbert and Zach Tinsley tacked on three more touchdowns. Gardner also recovered a fumble.

Crittenden's defense held Fulton (0-8) at bay, yielding just 63 total yards and forcing five punts. Fulton turned the ball over on downs twice and fumbled once.

The victory solidifies the 7-1 Rockets' grasp on one of the top two spots in the district race. Crittenden will play at Mayfield next week to decide who wins the coveted league crown. It's the third straight year the teams have squared off for the title.
Stephon Cozart (74) blocks for a Dustin Hernandez (32) run.
