Week 1 in Review

  • Preston Morgeson became the 6th player in school history to have 1,000 career receiving yards with his performance last week.  In doing so, Morgeson is now only one of two players to have 500 career rushing yards and 1,000 career receiving yards (the other = T.K. Guess).
  • Until the 2020 matchup with Murray, Crittenden County quarterbacks had found little success against Murray.  However, you would have not known that last week as Micah Newcom recorded one of the most productive and efficient passing games in school history.  Newcom passed for 316 yards on 16 completions and 24 attempts.  Tack on three passing TDs to go with the 75% completion percentage.
  • Other items worth noting about Newcom’s performance:
  • Only three players had ever thrown for 300 or more yards in a game, now there are four (Hunter Boone, Austin Berry, and Luke Crider).
  • In 300 yard passing games for CC, only one performance has had a higher completion percentage than Newcom’s 75.0% last week (Hunter Boone, Webster County, 2018, 22/29 (75.9%) for 325 yards).
  • Before last week, no one had thrown for more than 300 yards in a season opener, ever.
  • Newcom’s 77-yard TD pass to Briley is the 14th longest TD Pass in school history and oddly enough, it is the fourth longest in a season opener.  The record for longest TD pass in a season opener is held by Jamie Curtis to Allen Crider for 96 yards in 1990.
