Last Week Review

  • The CC offense produced 186 yards of total offense in the win against Murray.  The last time the offense produced less than 186 yards of total offense AND won the game was against Caldwell County in week 1 of 2003.
    • For the record that is 242 games ago.
    • Interestingly, in the season before the last occurrence, which was 2002, this statistical anomaly occurred twice in 12 games.
    • The fewest total yards ever in a Rocket win came in 1999 against Murray (113).
  • CC has not scored a rushing touchdown in the last five games.  That streak is the longest in school history.  The previous longest streak of four games happened in 2012.
  • The Rockets leading rusher had 32 yards last week.  The only other time a leading rusher has had less yards in the last 220 games (since the 2004 season) was in 2022 against Fulton County (17).

Team Stat Review

  • Opponents are averaging 12.7 first downs per game in 2023 which is the highest average ever by CC opponents.  In 2014, opponents averaged 12.0 first downs for the season.
  • Rocket opponents are averaging 10.8 penalties and 90.7 penalty yards per game.  9.3 penalties and 78.9 penalties yards per game are the previous highs (1999).
  • The Rocket offense is averaging 14.3 completions per game which would be the most ever.  The previous high was 14.1 in 2017.

Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) – Trying to Figure it Out

Currently, Crittenden County ranks 6th in RPI for 2A (0.94834).  Our RPI went up after the win but only marginally.

Murray drop from 6th to 7th but had a large drop in their RPI score.

Crittenden County is the highest ranked team with a 0.500 or losing record.  The closest team is Danville at 0-6 in 11th at 0.75952.

Obviously, a win against Ohio County (5A) will raise CC's winning percentage for RPI purposes.

However, when you consider the win-loss record of Ohio County and add it into our “opponents’ winning percentage” portion of the RPI calculation, that portion of our RPI calculation will drop (even with the class size multiplier for OC) as they have a poor record.

Ohio County’s “opponents' winning percentage” may provide a slight boost to CC’s “opponents’, opponents’ winning percentage” as Ohio County’s OWP is higher than CC’s OOWP in that category.

Big games to watch for our RPI will be:

    • Webster County (5-2) vs. McLean County (5-2)
    • Hopkins Central (2-5) vs. Hancock County (5-2)
    • Calloway County (2-5) vs. Allen-County Scottsville (2-5)

This is a link to KHSAA webpage which explains the RPI calculation.
